I’ve been working hard on this issue for over a decade, trying to get Coles to improve its neglected vacant site on Guildford Road, develop it or sell it.
My work started in 2015, as an ordinary community member: I organised a successful community campaign to get Coles to clean up their big vacant lot on Guildford Road (near KFC), including removing the graffiti and replacing the rusty fences. After being elected as a councillors, I have tried on various occasions to explore options to encourage Coles to do something positive with that wasteland in the middle of the Maylands town centre, which devalues the suburb.
