I am a big supporter of local events as I believe that they are an important way to help create a sense of community, and if they are held in our town centres, they provide an important boost to businesses. Before being elected, back in 2015/16, I volunteered with LACE (Local Arts and Community Events), helping with the 2016 Maylands Street Festival.
During my time on Council, I’ve consistently supported funding allocations for events to be organised in different parts of the city, and for various actions that have promoted art and culture in our city:
- supported a new Cultural Plan for our City.
- Voted for the continuation of the lease of the Maylands Hall to the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra, and was successful in getting WAYJO to provide annual free public performances.
- got Council support for use of the former Maylands Autumn Centre on Ninth Ave in Maylands (now the Roxy Theatre) by the theatre group ARENA Arts.
