Guildford Rd – trees and traffic issues

One of my main aims has been to upgrade the Guildford Road streetscape. Despite it being part of the Maylands Town Centre (and in someway, the face of Maylands) and a key route for pedestrians living in Bayswater, Maylands and Mount Lawley, it has been neglected for a long time.

Back in 2016, before being a councillor, a motion that I raised at the city’s AGM of Electors, was supported by the Council and got the City to investigate, together with Main Roads, possible tree planting locations along Guildford Road (for the purpose of shading pedestrians). Since then, as a local councillor, I’ve continued to push for planting along this road and saw a list of trees planted in numerous locations, including on the footpaths in front of Coles and the IGA in Maylands.
